Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is a government-owned company responsible for operating the metro rail service in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was formed under the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (DMRT) and is working towards developing a modern, fast and convenient public transport system in the capital Dhaka.

🔹 Main Information:

Established: 2013 (Registered under the Companies Act 1994)

Ownership: Government of Bangladesh (under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges)

Main Project: Dhaka Metro Rail (MRT Line-6)

Headquarters: Dhaka, Bangladesh

🔹 Dhaka Metro Rail (MRT Line-6):

Route: Uttara (Aftab Nagar) to Motijheel (Kamalapur)

Length: 20.1 km (Uttara to Motijheel), later extended by 1.16 km to Kamalapur

Stations: 16 (Uttara North, Uttara Center, Pallabi, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Sheorapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University, Secretariat, Motijheel and Kamalapur)

Speed: Maximum 100 km/h (usually 30-40 km/h)

Passenger capacity: About 5 lakh daily (up to 10 lakh in phases)

🔹 Progress and launch:

Trial run: From 2021 (Uttara to Agargaon)

Commercial operation: Inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 28 December 2022 (partial route)

Full route launch: From November 2023 (extended to Kamalapur)

🔹 Future plans:

Other lines: DMTCL is also working on the development of MRT Line-1, Line-5 and Line-2.

Integrated public transport: Establishing connections with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and other transport systems.

🔹 Tickets and fares:

Fare: 20-100 Taka (distance-based)

Card/Mobile App: Tickets can be purchased through the “Dhaka Mass Transit” app.

Dhaka Metro Rail is a groundbreaking step to reduce traffic congestion and build a modern public transport system in the city. It is being implemented with joint funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of Bangladesh.
