The Ministry of Shipping is an important ministry of the Government of Bangladesh, which is responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of the country’s shipping system. It works to ensure the safety of waterways, port management, and waterway operations. The ministry falls under the Ministry of Transport of the Government of Bangladesh.
### Main functions:
1. **Port Development and Management**: Development, modernization and management of the country’s sea ports such as Chittagong, Mongla and Payra ports.
2. **Seaway Safety**: Ensuring safety on the country’s inland waterways and sea routes.
3. **Shipping and Cargo Transport**: Management of vessels, route determination and development of commercial cargo transport.
4. **Shipping Laws and Policies**: Formulation and implementation of laws, rules and policies related to shipping.
5. **Technology Development**: Development and innovation of the shipping system using modern technology.
