“Prisons Directorate” generally refers to the government agency responsible for the management of prisons and correctional facilities in Bangladesh. Its full name is “Prisons Directorate”. It is a department under the Ministry of Home Affairs of Bangladesh.
The main responsibilities of the Prisons Directorate:
1. Prison Management: Supervising all prisons and correctional facilities in the country.
2. Prisoner Security: Keeping prisoners safe and ensuring their human rights.
3. Correctional Activities: Conducting various training and programs for the rehabilitation and correction of prisoners.
4. Legal Aid: Providing legal aid to undertrial prisoners.
5. Prison Development: Improving the infrastructure and facilities of prisons.
Structure of the Prisons Directorate: Inspector General of Prisons (IGP): Head of the Directorate.
