The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) is the official organ of the government under the Prime Minister’s Office tasked with creation, development, operation, and management of Export Processing Zones (EPZs) in Bangladesh.

Its primary objective is to attract foreign and local investment, accelerate industrialization, boost exports, and create employment opportunities.

Key Functions of BEPZA

• Investment Promotion: Attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and local capital to set up export-oriented industries.

• Infrastructure Development: Developing serviced industrial plots and factory buildings with necessary utilities (power, water, gas, internet).

• One-Stop Service (OSS): Providing all required administrative services, clearances, and licenses smoothly from a single window.

• Labor Management: Maintaining peaceful labor-management relations through the implementation of relevant EPZ labor laws and ensuring workers’ welfare.

Operational EPZs in Bangladesh

BEPZA currently manages 8 operational Export Processing Zones across the country:

📌 Expansion: In addition to these 8 EPZs, BEPZA is developing the BEPZA Economic Zone at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Mirsarai, Chattogram, alongside planning new EPZs in regions like Jashore, Patuakhali, and Gaibandha.

Fiscal Incentives

• Tax Holiday: Income tax exemptions for a specific period depending on the location of the EPZ.

• Duty-Free Import: No customs duties on the import of capital machinery, spare parts, and raw materials.

• Duty-Free Export: No export duties on finished goods sent abroad.

• Exemptions: Dividend tax exemptions and relief from double taxation.

Non-Fiscal Incentives

• 100% Foreign Ownership: Complete foreign equity or joint ventures allowed.

• Full Repatriation: Full repatriation of capital, profits, and dividends.

• Resident Visas: Provision of citizenship or resident visas for significant foreign investments.

• No Trade Unions: BEPZA allows Workers’ Welfare Associations (WWAs) instead of conventional political trade unions to ensure a stable working environment.
