The Department of Printing and Publications is an attached department under the Ministry of Public Administration of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. It is primarily responsible for managing and executing all types of government printing, stationery procurement, and official publications. Its headquarters is located in the Tejgaon Industrial Area, Dhaka.

The department was established on August 30, 1972, to meet the official printing and stationery demands of the newly independent nation.

Key Functions

  • Printing Government Documents: Printing and publishing all government laws, regulations, policy documents, budget books, and the official Bangladesh Gazette.

  • Forms and Stationery Supply: Manufacturing, storing, and distributing various official forms, registers, and stationery items required by government offices across the country.

  • Security Printing: Printing high-security and sensitive government documents, stamps, and certificates.

Subordinate Offices and Presses

The department oversees five major printing and supply units:

  1. Bangladesh Government Press (BG Press): The primary printing press responsible for high-profile government publications, legislative documents, and gazettes.

  2. Government Printing Press (GP Press): Handles general government forms and standard publications.

  3. Bangladesh Security Printing Press (BSP Press): Responsible for printing secure items like checkbooks, non-judicial stamps, and other classified materials.

  4. Bangladesh Forms and Publication Office (BFPO): Manages the archiving, sale, and distribution of official forms and public documents.

  5. Bangladesh Stationery Office (BSO): Ensures the procurement and supply of general office stationery to government ministries and directorates.

📌 Regional Presence: To decentralize its services, the department operates regional or zonal offices in major divisional headquarters including Chattogram, Khulna, Bogura, Barishal, Rangpur, Sylhet, and Mymensingh.
