Bangladesh Shishu Academy is a national institution established for children in Bangladesh. It was established in 1976 and is run under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs. Its main objective is to develop the talent of children, promote cultural development, and patronage.
The main functions of Bangladesh Shishu Academy are:
*Cultural Training: Providing training for children in singing, dancing, recitation, painting, acting, instrumental music, etc.
* Celebration of various national and international days: Celebrating various national and international days such as World Children’s Day, Child Rights Week, National Children’s Day, Rabindra-Nazrul Birth Anniversary, etc. with the participation of children.
* Organizing competitions: Organizing national children’s award competitions, seasonal award competitions, children’s ananda mela and other educational and creative competitions.
* Publication of Shishutosh Granth: Publishing various books, monthly magazines and koshruts suitable for children.
* Library Management: Establishing and managing libraries for children and instilling the habit of reading books among them.
* Museum Management: To operate a children’s museum with rich information on the history, heritage and geographical information of Bangladesh and different countries.
* Child Development Centers and Pre-Primary Education Programs: To operate child development centers and pre-primary education programs for the overall development of children.
* International Child Exchange Programs: To send child cultural groups to different countries for the purpose of cultural exchange.
* Protection of legal rights of children: To assist in protecting the legal rights of children.
* Assistance in achieving economic self-reliance: To provide technical and vocational training for children and to encourage them to achieve economic self-reliance.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy operates its activities in 64 districts and 6 upazilas (Keshabpur, Parashuram, Mithapukur, Kulaura, Srinagar and Babuganj) of the country. Its central office is located in the Old High Court area of Dhaka.
